IDENTIFY PAP'S WEAKEST LINK IN ANG MO KIO GRC - VOTE NOW!
In 2006 the PAP expected its team in Ang Mo Kio GRC headed by Lee Hsien Loong to garnered at least 80% of votes against a group of Workers’ Party first-timers. The Prime Minister in the end suffered the ignominy of winning a below average 66.1% of popular votes.
This time round Lee has been careful to change his team around. The only other MP to remain at Ang Mo Kio is veteran Inderjit Singh. In addition to new faces Ang Hin Kee and Dr Intan Azura Mokhtar, Lee has through the redrawing of electoral boundaries roped Seng Han Thong and Yeo Guat Kwang from Yio Chu Kang SMC and Aljunied GRC respectively to strengthen his own base.
The PM himself has been hit by his own floundering popularity, while Singh, Seng and Yeo have not exactly been awe-inspiring with Singaporeans. While the Workers’ Party has said it would not send another “suicide squad” to Ang Mo Kio, it remains to be seen if the PAP can avoid another embarrassment should it face an Opposition challenge again.
The PM’s men and woman all have their own weakness. Who is The Weakest Link? Your votes will determine.
Candidate 1: Seng Han Thong
Seng comes from a journalist background with the local Chinese press but has, like many PAP MPs, since been parked with a director-level appointment with the NTUC. In 2006 he credibly won 68.28% of votes in the Yio Chu Kang SMC, but impressions of him being a well-received MP was shattered when he was punched by a disgruntled former taxi driver in May 2006. Worse thing happened in January 2009 when Seng was set ablaze by another elderly constituent and suffered burns on 15% of his body. Despite the unfortunate nature of the incident, Seng received few expressed sympathy from netizens who instead further questioned his performance serving the people.

Candidate 2: Yeo Guat Kwang
Yeo has for the past 15 years been “Director, Quality Worklife Department” with the NTUC – the type of long-term employment security that many Singaporeans can now only dream of. He is better recognized as the President and public face of Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE), the consumer watchdog organization that has been reduced to a paper tiger. The dreadful untrustworthiness of the “CaseTrust” certification issued to private education institutes has done irreparably damage to Singapore’s aspirations to become an Education Hub. Meanwhile, Yeo holds a surprisingly large number of board directorships for a person who has never been in business himself.

Candidate 3: Ang Hin Kee
Ang is the third NTUC man in the Ang Mo Kio team. He is credited to have “grown” the Job Re-creation programme to help workers “become more employable and for the workplace to be more productive” – a task that he has clearly failed to deliver after the government’s repeated complains of plummeting productivity in Singapore.

Candidate 4: Dr Intan Azura Mokhtar
Dr Intan, 34, is a National Institute of Education lecturer who has never left school. After graduating with a Physics degree from NUS, she went on to do a Postgraduate Diploma in NIE. After teaching in a secondary school for four years, Dr Intan progressed further to obtain a Master of Science and Ph.D in Information Studies from NTU’s Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WSCI), and was later conferred a Master in Public Administration (MPA) by the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. What advice and solutions can she possibly provide to Singapore citizens facing real life problems?

Candidate 5: Inderjit Singh
As an entrepreneur, Singh appears to be refreshingly different from the other PAP MPs. He is named as the founder of semiconductor assembly and test company United Test and Assembly Center (UTAC), brand consumer electronics products company Solstar International Pte Ltd and semiconductor engineering company Infiniti Solutions Limited. Besides being chairman of Tri Star Electronics Pte Limited, a distributor of electronics products in Africa that claims to have annual turnover in excess of US$115 million, Singh is reported to hold directorship positions and investments in a number of start-up companies. However even Singh himself does not believe in hiring Singaporean workers. His present companies only have administrative presence here. Instead Infiniti Solutions’ IC Assembly and Test (SAT) and Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) operations are based in the US and Solstar International manufactures its own electrical & electronics products through partnerships with manufacturing facilities in different parts of the world.
